GigSmith builds a running order out of the songs you already play. You keep a catalog, you describe the gig in a sentence, and it hands back a set that fits the time you have and moves the way a room needs it to move. Then you drag things around until it is yours, and print it.
It is a web app. Nothing to install, nothing to update. It runs in the browser on whatever you brought to the gig.
It does not play, tune, or transpose anything. It orders the set. The forty minutes on stage are still yours to lose.
Open GigSmith and choose INITIALIZE_FREE on the sign-in screen. Two ways in:
Either way you land on the Dashboard.
Songs is your catalog. Generate builds a set from a prompt. Setlists is everything you have saved. Upgrade is where Pro lives. On a phone the sidebar becomes a bar along the bottom.
First set in five minutes. This is the whole product in one pass; the rest of the manual is detail.
Title - Artist. Messy is fine; it parses all-caps and missing
dashes. Click Parse Songs, check the result, add them to the catalog. The catalog is the foundation. The AI only picks from songs you have told it you play, so a fuller, better-described catalog produces better sets. Every song carries these fields:
| Field | Required | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | You, or import |
| Artist | Yes | You, import, or Reconcile |
| Genre | Yes | You, import, or Reconcile |
| Duration (s) | Yes | You, import, or Reconcile |
| Energy | Low / Medium / High | You, or an AI estimate on import and Reconcile |
| Key | Optional | You. Manual entry only. |
| Tempo (BPM) | Optional | You. Manual entry only. |
| Time Signature | Optional | You |
Songs → Add New Song. Title, Artist and Genre are required; Duration is in seconds. Fill in Tempo and Key if you know them; the set will be better for it. Save Song.
Songs → Import Songs opens the importer with three working tabs. (A fourth, Google Drive, is greyed out and not available.)
One song per line, Title - Artist. The parser copes with all-caps, missing dashes
and stray numbering. Click Parse Songs, review the Parsed Songs list,
then add them. Anything the parser could not resolve is left for Reconcile.
Drop or select a .txt, .pdf or .xml file containing a song
list. The same parser runs on the contents.
Paste a public playlist URL. GigSmith pulls the track list with titles, artists, durations and genres, and estimates an energy level for each. Tempo and key arrive blank, for the reason above.
Songs you typed by hand are usually missing something. Reconcile looks every incomplete song up and fills in the canonical artist name, the duration and the genre, and estimates energy. It touches only songs with gaps and never writes tempo or key. If nothing needs it, it says so.
Verify Catalog re-checks every song, not just the incomplete ones, and corrects title casing, artist names and durations that have drifted. It fills in a genre only where one is missing, and it never overwrites tempo, key, or a genre you set yourself.
The search bar filters by title or artist. The pencil opens Edit Song; the trash deletes, after asking. On Free, the catalog holds twenty songs.
Generate in the sidebar, or Generate with AI on the Dashboard.
One text field. Say what the gig is, how long you are on, and what it should feel like. The more of those three you give it, the less it has to guess.
Click Generate Setlist. The result fits the duration you described, matches the mood and genre, and draws from your catalog.
If your catalog cannot fill the set you asked for, GigSmith tells you so rather than padding it silently. You get two choices: add more songs and try again, or press the button to let the AI supplement the set with well-known songs from its general knowledge. Supplemented songs are not in your catalog; treat them as suggestions to learn, not songs you own.
Save Setlist. Give it a name. Event type, venue, city and date are optional and appear on the export. On Free you can hold one saved setlist at a time.
Setlists lists everything you have saved. Open one to edit it. Changes save as you go.
The set’s length is the sum of every song’s duration, which is why Duration is a required field. A song with the wrong duration lies to you about the whole night.
From the editor’s export menu:

When you reach a Free limit, GigSmith shows exactly what is blocked and what Pro unlocks, with an Upgrade button right there. Nothing you have made is lost or locked; you just cannot add the twenty-first song, the second setlist, or the second generation this month.
Upgrade, from the sidebar or from any limit prompt, opens a secure Stripe Checkout page. Enter payment details there; GigSmith never sees your card. When Stripe confirms, the account is Pro immediately, no refresh needed.
To change your payment method, get an invoice, or cancel, email thump@reclusestudios.net from the address on the account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; Pro stays on until then, and the account reverts to Free automatically afterwards. Nothing is deleted when it does.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Generate returns "Catalog Incomplete" | Not enough matching songs in the catalog for that prompt. | Add songs, loosen the prompt, or press the supplement button. |
| Tempo and key are blank after import | By design. Nothing fills those two. | Edit the song and enter them. See section 4. |
| Reconcile says "Catalog is up to date" | No song had a missing artist or duration. | Nothing to do. Use Verify Catalog to re-check everything instead. |
| Spotify import fails | The playlist is private, or the URL is not a playlist link. | Make it public in Spotify, copy the playlist link again. |
| Parsed list has wrong titles | The line did not follow Title - Artist closely enough. | Fix the lines and re-parse, or edit the songs after adding. |
| Export as .pdf opens the upgrade prompt | PDF is a Pro feature. | Use Export as .txt, or upgrade. |
| The set is the wrong length | One or more songs has a wrong duration. | Check durations in the catalog; Reconcile can refill missing ones. |
| Total Songs will not go past 20 | Free limit. | Delete songs you no longer play, or upgrade. |

| Reconcile | Fill the gaps in incomplete songs: artist, duration, genre, energy. Never tempo or key. |
| Verify Catalog | Re-check every song against the source and correct drift in title, artist and duration. Never overwrites what you typed. |
| Supplement | Let the AI add well-known songs from outside your catalog when the catalog cannot fill the set. |
| Transition Ideas | AI suggestions for getting from one song to the next, based on both songs’ energy and genre. |
